Siding Installation and Repair on Long Island, Built for Salt Air And Wind
Most siding failures on Long Island are not the siding. They are what is behind it. Missing housewrap, water management details that were never installed, panels nailed too tight so they cannot move, and flashing at the windows that was skipped because nobody would see it.
Bluemaster Roofing installs, repairs and replaces siding across Nassau County, Suffolk County and Queens Before we quote a re-side we pull panels and look at the sheathing underneath, because the number changes considerably depending on what is back there. Every estimate is written, itemized and photographed.

The Siding Work We Handle Across Long Island
From a single cracked panel through to a full tear-off and re-side, all handled in-house by one crew.
Siding Inspection
We walk the elevations, check the joints, corners, window and door flashing, and pull panels in a few places to see what the sheathing and the water barrier are actually doing. Photographs of every finding, and a written assessment of how much life the siding realistically has left. No charge and no deposit, and you keep the file whether or not you hire us.
Siding Repair
Cracked, warped, loose or storm-damaged panels replaced, corner posts and J-channel refixed, and trim details rebuilt. Where a section has failed rather than the whole wall, we quote the section. Being upfront about it: matching twenty-year-old siding is rarely invisible, and we will tell you before we start how noticeable the repair will be.
New Siding Installation
New builds, additions, dormers and garages, coordinated with your general contractor so the house gets closed in on schedule. Housewrap, flashing and water management installed as a system rather than as separate line items.
Siding Replacement
Full removal down to the sheathing, wall inspected and repaired where the wood is soft, new water-resistive barrier, then new siding installed with proper clearances and fastening. This is where the real difference between contractors sits, and almost all of it is invisible once the last panel goes on.
Siding Maintenance
Scheduled cleaning and inspection, caulking renewed at the joints that actually need it, and small failures handled before they let water in. Particularly worth it on the South Shore and out on the forks, where salt and wind work at the details year round.
Emergency Siding
Someone answers at any hour. Wind-stripped panels, storm and tree impact, and open wall sections get covered and secured the same day, photographed and documented for your insurer before anything is touched. Permanent repair follows once the weather clears.

Siding material from the best
We work with two manufacturers rather than whatever the supplier has cheapest that month. Both make siding built for a climate with real winters and real wind, and both back it with a warranty that outlasts most of the companies installing it. Consistency matters more than variety when a house needs matching panels in fifteen years.
CertainTeed Siding
One of the most established names in North American building products, and the one we reach for most often. Their range covers everything on this page except real cedar, which means a whole house can be done in one system with matching trim and corners.
- Vinyl lap siding in a wide range of profiles and colors
- Cedar Impressions shake and shingle profiles, the cedar look in vinyl
- Matching trim and accessories, so corners and openings are part of the system
CertainTeed Siding
Royal Building Solutions
Heavier gauge panels and deeper profiles, which is what you notice on an exposed elevation. Thicker vinyl holds its shape better in wind and reads less like vinyl from the street, and that difference shows most on a south-facing wall that takes weather all year.
- Heavier gauge vinyl with deeper shadow lines
- Strong wind performance, which matters on South Shore and waterfront elevations
- Shake and shingle profiles alongside standard lap
Why we use it
The warranty depends on how it goes on
Where the roof ends and the wall begins
There is a strip about six inches deep where the roof, the gutter and the siding all meet. Drip edge, gutter apron, fascia, soffit and the top course of siding, all within a hand’s width of each other. Handled by three contractors at three different times, that strip is where water gets in and where nobody takes responsibility.
Water runs off the shingles, over the drip edge and gutter apron, and into the gutter. If any one of those three pieces is wrong, it runs behind the gutter and down the fascia instead.
The roofer says
The gutter company says
The siding company says
Separate jobs, separate years
Done together, done once
The cheapest time to do the gutters is while the roof is off
Gutters have to come down for a roof replacement anyway. Putting old gutters back on a new roof is work you pay for twice, once to refit them and again when they come off in a few years.
Siding is a smaller saving but the same logic. The crew, the staging and the dumpster are already on site, and the eave detail only gets built once.
How A Siding Project Runs
Inspection And Panel Pull
We walk every elevation, check the flashing at windows, doors and rooflines, and pull panels in several places to see the sheathing and the water barrier. Everything is photographed. This is what decides the scope, and it cannot be done from the driveway.
Written, Itemized Estimate
Material, profile and color named, sheathing priced per sheet in advance, flashing and trim broken out separately. Financing available up to 100% of project cost, subject to credit approval.
Water Barrier, Flashing And Installation
New water-resistive barrier, flashing installed at every window head, door head and roof-to-wall junction, then siding installed with proper fastening and clearances.
Cleanup, Walkthrough And Warranty
Debris hauled out, magnet sweep across the property, final walk with you, inspection closed and the manufacturer warranty registered.
What Shapes The Cost Of A Siding Job In Long Island
Wall area sets the floor. What moves it is the material you choose, how many stories, how much trim and detail the house has, what condition the sheathing is in once the old siding comes off, and how much staging the elevations need.
Wall area and number of stories.
A two-story colonial needs staging on every elevation. A ranch of the same square footage is worked from ladders and finishes considerably faster.
Material choice.
Vinyl, insulated vinyl, engineered wood, fiber cement and cedar sit at very different price points, and the labor differs as much as the material does. Fiber cement is heavy and slow to hang. Cedar is slower still.
Sheathing condition
The largest unknown, and the one we establish before pricing rather than after. Priced per sheet in advance and photographed as it is replaced.
Flashing and water management
Window and door head flashing, kick-out flashing at roof-to-wall junctions, and a proper water barrier. On many older Long Island houses none of it exists and it all goes on new.
What You Get On A Siding Job
Siding is where the least accountable work in the exterior trades happens, because the wall gets covered over and nobody can check. These are the things we do so that is not true here.
We pull panels before we quote.
The sheathing decides the scope and the price. Quoting a re-side without looking behind the siding is guessing with your money.
The estimate is the invoice
Sheathing priced per sheet in advance, photographed as replaced. No allowances that expand once the wall is open.A written, itemized quote with no vague allowances or surprise add-ons once work begins.
Water management installed as a system
Barrier, window and door head flashing, kick-out flashing at roof-to-wall junctions, and correct clearances. These are the six details that actually keep a wall dry, and they are the first things cut from a cheap quote.
Panels hung, not clamped
Vinyl has to move. The buckled, wavy walls you see across this island are almost always fastening rather than product.
The Long Island Homes We Side
This island was built in waves and each wave left its own siding problem behind. These are the situations we get called for most.
- Postwar capes and ranches in Levittown, Hicksville, Massapequa and Bethpage, most now on their second or third skin
- Split levels and hi-ranches across Merrick, Bellmore, Commack and Medford, where the transitions between wall heights are where water gets in
- Colonials in Garden City, Rockville Centre, Smithtown and Setauket, with more elevation, more trim and more staging
- Waterfront and coastal homes in Long Beach, Island Park, Freeport, the Rockaways and out on both forks, where salt reaches every fastener
- Cedar-clad North Shore and East End homes, where the material was chosen for the architecture rather than the budget
Other Roofing Services We Provide Across Long Island
Siding and roofing meet at the walls, the gables and the kick-out flashing, which is why doing both together usually costs less than doing them two years apart. Every service below is handled by the same in-house crew.
Roofing Systems We Maintain And Install
If the siding is going, the roof is frequently close behind, because both went on the same year. We install and warranty all six.
Siding Questions Long Island Homeowners Ask
Cost, going over the old siding, asbestos, salt exposure and timing with the roof. These five come up on nearly every siding estimate.
Can you install new siding over the old siding?
Sometimes, and it costs less, but it is the wrong call more often than not. Going over means nobody ever sees the sheathing, you cannot install a proper water barrier, and you cannot flash the windows and doors correctly because the new siding sits proud of them. If the wall behind has been wet for years, covering it seals the problem in. We quote both ways where a layover is genuinely viable so you can see the difference.
My house was built before 1980 and the siding might be asbestos. What now?
Stop and have it tested before anyone touches it. Asbestos cement siding is common on older Long Island homes and it is harmless while intact, but cutting, breaking or removing it releases fibers. Removal is regulated work that has to be done by a licensed abatement contractor, and that is not us. We will tell you if we suspect it, and we will not start a tear-off on a wall we have not confirmed is safe to remove.
What siding holds up best near salt water?
Fiber cement and properly installed vinyl both perform well. What actually fails near the water is the metal: the nails, the flashing and the fasteners behind the panels. On the South Shore, the Rockaways and out on both forks we specify corrosion-resistant fasteners and flashing throughout, because standard hardware rusts through years early that close to the ocean and takes the wall with it.
Will new siding lower my heating bill?
Not much on its own, and we would rather say so than let you find out afterward. Insulated siding adds some value, but attic insulation and air sealing do considerably more per dollar spent, because most heat loss in a Long Island house goes up rather than sideways. If comfort and bills are your actual goal, do the attic first and the siding when the siding needs doing.
Should I do siding and roofing at the same time?
If both are near the end of their life, yes, and the saving is real rather than a sales line. Staging goes up once instead of twice, one permit and one disposal cycle, and crucially the roof-to-wall flashing and the kick-out details get done properly as one system. When those two trades happen years apart, that junction is where they meet badly and where leaks start.
